Buddha pea and the wanderer
Another wonderful tour of our garden with John Palmer – garden angel and walking encyclopedia of plants and ecology:
Showing Taiji Buddha Pea (aeschynomene indica), a nitrogen fixing annual that grows in wet, seasonally flooded areas.
Buddha pea up close.
And here is a caterpillar of the wanderer butterfly happy on a leaf of Balloon Cotton Bush – a plant that is poisonous (but not fatal) for animals, is used medicinally in Africa for intestinal disorders in children and the fluff inside the fruits has been used for stuffing cushions!!
