Circles in the Sand

February 27, 2010

We lead extremely busy lives juggling many balls between us so quality family time is something we’ve realised we aren’t getting enough of. Kosuke works nights and I work days and when we are at home together, we’re usually busy doing separate projects (me taking care of the kids or working and him building our house or working). So last month, we started having regular family outings every Saturday. No matter how busy we are, how stressed we are feeling by all the demands on us, Saturday morning is family outing time and it has been transformational. Life is so speedy that we forget to stop and smell the roses, or in this case to play in the sand with our kids at the beach.

This is a photo from last year (I forgot the camera today) but I remembered it when I saw Taiji doing the exact same thing today – drawing a large circle in the sand with intense concentration. We dug holes, built castles, drew patterns with our toes as we walked, sorted shells and stones into colours, searched for hermit crabs, ran in and out of the waves. refreshing  bonding   relaxing  breathing
